Avengers villain might not return for sequel

Los Angeles - Tom Hiddleston has "no idea" whether he will return to The Avengers 2.

The 31-year-old actor - whose villainous character Loki first appeared 2011's Thor - has admitted he is doubtful of reprising the evil character in the upcoming Marvel sequel as he believes fans may get "tired" of seeing the same bad guy.

He revealed to MSN: "I don't know [if I will return]. And that really is the honest answer. I know I've been known for obfuscation in other quarters, but I have no idea.

"I haven't spoken to Joss [Whedon]. He's definitely doing it. So I suspect not, only because I think that probably the audiences are tired of Loki being the bad guy. Maybe the Avengers need somebody else to fight. But I'd love to be part of it again."

Will return for Thor sequel

The British heartthrob will, however, return as Loki for Thor: The Dark World, which is due for release on 8 November 2013.

Original Avengers Assemble cast Robert Downey Jnr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L Jackson are all expected to return for Avengers 2, which is scheduled for release in 2015.

Actor Sam Rockwell, who starred alongside Robert in 2010's superhero movie Iron Man as Justin Hammer, has also expressed interest in appearing in the sequel as he thinks it would be a "blast" to act with his friends.

"[Jeremy] Renner's a good friend of mine, and I know [Mark] Ruffalo, I know Scarlett [Johansson]. It would be fun to play with all those guys. That would be a blast," he said.
