Ben Affleck developing African political thriller

Los Angeles - Ben Affleck is developing a new political thriller.

The 41-year-old actor is set to star and direct a new film set in Africa following the success of his Oscar-winning movie Argo - which he helmed and starred in - last year.

Will Staples - who worked on the video games Call of Duty and Modern Warfare 3 - has been hired to pen the script for the geopolitical thriller based around a group of mercenaries employed to kill a warlord who has been victimizing his own people.

Initial reports by Deadline claim Affleck will work alongside long-time friend and collaborator Matt Damon and Jennifer Todd to produce the movie with their company Pearl Street films in addition to Warner Brothers Studios.

Busy schedule

Meanwhile, Affleck is set to direct and star alongside actress Rosamund Pike in epic period crime drama Live By Night based on the best-selling novel by Dennis Lehane - who wrote the book Gone Baby Gone which was made into a 2007 film on which Affleck made his directorial debut.

Affleck is currently filming Gone Girl and will also star as Batman in The Man of Steel sequel which also stars Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman.
