Los Angeles – Ben Affleck is in talks to take on the role of Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby.
The Town actor has reportedly been approached to star as the protagonist Jay Gatsby's (Leonardo DiCaprio) arch-rival Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel which will also star Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan.
Limitless star Bradley Cooper recently revealed he would love to play Tom because he is such a "complicated" character although he acknowledged director Baz may not even consider him.

He explained: "To me, he's the best character in the book. He's so complicated. He's xenophobic, he's an alcoholic, but he also understands some profound stuff about class.
"Whoever plays it has to take a gentle hand, because it could so easily be stock, where he's a rich jerk you don't identify with at all.
"I don't even know if I'm on Lurhmann's radar. Maybe he'll read this article after the role's cast and say, 'Oh. Ha. Yeah, that guy was never going to get it.' "
Tobey Maguire has been confirmed to play the narrator Nick Carraway while the other central roles of Jordan Baker, George Wilson and his wife Myrtle - who Tom is having an affair with - have yet to be cast.
