Blake Lively for zombie classic

Los Angeles - Blake Lively has been offered the role of Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Director Craig Gillespie has had a hard time casting the project - with Natalie Portman, Emma Stone and Scarlett Johansson all passing previously - but is not believed to be in negotiations with the Gossip Girl beauty to take on the role, according to movie site Twitch.

The film is an adaptation of the book by Seth Graeme-Smith, who also wrote the screenplay, and tells the tale of a young woman looking for love at the same time as a zombie plague erupts in England.

Vampire hunter

David O. Russell was originally set to helm the project, but was later replaced by Gillespie.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is not the only project created by Seth which is set to hit cinemas, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is also being made.

He also wrote Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters.

Blake, 24, has had a successful number of films in recent years since rising to prominence in Gossip Girl - she has starred in critically acclaimed The Town and Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds.
