Los Angeles - Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom declined to make an appearance in Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, which centers around the real-life theft of a group of celebrities homes. Bloom, alongside Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Megan Fox, Miranda Kerr, Audrina Patridge and Rachel Bilson, were one of the victims in the break-ins, but unlike Paris did not want to make a cameo in the project.
"Sofia Coppola is wonderful and I'd love to work with her. She asked me to cameo in the movie but I said it was too close to home for me to want to be involved," said Bloom to Hello! magazine.
Criticism of the movie
Another of the victims, Bilson, criticised the movie for "glorifying" a crime that involved so many people. "It's important to detach from material things, but the special, personal things I lost are hard to forget."
The Bling Ring opened in US theatres in early June to generally positive reviews, raking in $210 000 in its debut weekend, although no release date for South Africa has been set.
