Los Angeles - Brad Pitt is set to star in Twelve Years a Slave.
The World War Z actor will appear alongside hot property Michael Fassbender in the new film - to be directed by Steve McQueen.
Although his production company Plan B was already involved in the film, his starring has now been confirmed, although it is not known in how big of a capacity.
The film tells the real-life story of Solomon Northup, a black slave living in New York in the 1850s who is enticed to go on a trip to Washington only to end up being kidnapped and sold into slavery.
He won his freedom when a Canadian man smuggled letters to his wife to lead a court case which eventually saw him released.
New films
The script has been adapted from Northup's autobiography by British filmmaker Steve and John Ridley, and is due to begin shooting in 2012.
It will be the third time Fassbender - best known for the role of Magneto in X-Men: First Class - will be working with McQueen after appearing in Hunger and sex addiction movie Shame.
Brad Pitt has a number of pictures coming up, including Cogan's Trade, about a man who investigates a heist which took place during a mob-protected poker game, and eagerly anticipated zombie novel adaptation World War Z, which has recently been filming in the UK.
