Los Angeles – Bradley Cooper "would love" a role in the film adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
The Limitless star has admitted he is hoping to land the part of the protagonist's arch-rival Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming adaptation of the F Scott Fitzgerald novel because the character is so "complicated".
He said: "To me, he's the best character in the book. He's so complicated. He's xenophobic, he's an alcoholic, but he also understands some profound stuff about class.
'Rich jerk'
"Whoever plays it has to take a gentle hand, because it could so easily be stock, where he's a rich jerk you don't identify with at all."
However, the 36-year-old actor admitted he has no idea whether the Australian director - who has worked on Moulin Rouge, Romeo and Juliet and Australia in the past - is even considering him for a role in the movie.
Bradley added to the New York Times newspaper: "I don't even know if I'm on Lurhmann's radar. Maybe he'll read this article after the role's cast and say, 'Oh. Ha. Yeah, that guy was never going to get it.'"
British actress Carey Mulligan has already been cast as the female lead, Daisy Buchanan, in the movie.
