Johannesburg – The latest and final movie in the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn Part 2 has scored the biggest three-day opening of all time in South Africa with a R10.9m haul at the local box office, according to Nu Metro Cinemas.
Twi-hards descended on SA cinemas in their droves to experience the final chapter in the supernatural romance between Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart) and her vampire husband Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) – scoring a record opening for the film in SA and around the world.
According to Nu Metro, the local distributors of Breaking Dawn Part 2, the movie surpassed the previous record by 36%. It also goes down in the record books as the biggest box-office at cinemas for Friday and Saturday. In its first three days at local cinemas, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 has been seen by more than 275 000 movie-goers.

Previous instalments of the franchise, Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Eclipse, both achieved over R11m and R11.7m respectively with their releases - but over a five day period.
To celebrate the release of the final Twilight movie, Ashley Greene, who plays psychic vampire Alice Cullen in the movies, visited South Africa near the end of October to meet with local fans and drum up excitement for the end of the franchise.
