Bryan Adams is the voice of Jock

Cape Town - Bryan Adams, who voices the titular character in South African animated feature film Jock of the Bushveld has said that the experience of working on the movie has been "a great pleasure".

The movie is based on the first book written by Sir Percy Fitzpatrick and published in 1907 as a diary of his adventures with his dog Jock and hits SA screens on July 29, 2011.

The movie has also been signed to Visio’ Entertainment, a Hollywood-based marketing and distribution company created to support the independent film industry, and the South African canine hero will be making his film debut in the US (and Europe) later this year.

In an interview while recording with MacNeillie, Adams is clearly fascinated by this piece of South African history and his love and knowledge of dogs evident: "This was a really good experience. It’s been nice to be part of Jock’s character and try and develop it while adding a bit of humour to the role."

The professional actors are joined by Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, cast appropriately in a cameo role as the voice of a spiritual leader.

Sir Tim Rice, who has contributed lyrics to Aladdin, The Lion King and Evita, is the lyricist for the film and other contributors to the music include Johnny Clegg, Nianell and Craig Hinds of the band Watershed.

Bryan Adams a ‘natural choice’

MacNeillie says: “Bryan was very involved in the voice recording during the making of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and he also produced all of the music for this movie, so he seemed a natural choice.”

Adams says: “I have a bit of knowledge about terriers after having grown up with them, and you do get into their mind-set. They like a bit of rough and tumble, they like food, they love, love. Jock is all of those things combined. It’s been a great pleasure to be a part of this.”

Adams is also contributing two songs to the movie’s soundtrack and will be attending the Johannesburg premier of the movie in SA on July 19.

Adams is a Companion of the Order of Canada and the recipient of the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement.   In 2010 Adams' received the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award for his part in numerous charitable concerts and campaigns during his career.

His namesake foundation funds projects supporting victims of wars and natural disaster, disadvantaged individuals and organizations that aid in the well being and education of children.
