Channing Tatum eyes major role in new Tarantino western

Los Angeles  - Channing Tatum is eyeing a role in The Hateful Eight.

The 34-year-old actor is circling a major role in the upcoming Western epic to be directed by Django Unchained filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, Deadline reports.

The Foxcatcher star - who impressed with his portrayal of Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz in the Bennett Miller directed biopic - would join already confirmed stars Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Dern, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth and others on the cast.

The Hateful Eight is set in post-Civil War Wyoming, where a group of bounty hunters attempt to find shelter during a blizzard but instead find themselves involved in a plot of betrayal and deception.

Principal photography for the film - which Tarantino considered scrapping after his script was leaked - is set to begin in January with Richard Glastein, Stacy Sher and Shannon McIntosh on board to produce.

Brothers Bob and Harvey Weinstein take on the role of executive producers alongside G Mac Brown with their The Weinstein Co studio in charge of distribution.

Tatum recently wrapped filming on his Magic Mike sequel Magic Mike XXL'and is set to take on the role of Marvel Comics character Gambit.

Channing showed off some hot dance moves recently on a shoot with The Hollywood Reporter.
