Chilling Man of Steel trailer lands

Cape Town – Warner Bros have released the first full-length trailer to the new Superman movie Man of Steel - one of the most highly anticipated blockbuster releases of 2013.

The clip explores Clark Kent's childhood growing up on a farm and discovering he is different from all the other children in his school. His acts of heroism as a young boy draws attention from others and concerns his adoptive parents.

Directed by Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch, 300) Man of Steel stars British actor Henry Cavill as the titular superhero. Russell Crowe also stars as Superman's father Jor-El from his home planet Krypton, Amy Adams as love interest Lois Lane, and Michael Shannon as villain General Zod.

Kevin Costner and Diane Lane play earth-bound Clark Kent's adoptive parents Jonathan and Martha Kent, who in the trailer are seen to mould their unique son into the man he is later to become.

Even at 2.5 minutes the trailer still manages to keep plot details of the movie a mystery as images of exploding city buildings, a sinking schoolbus full of children and Superman, wearing his iconic red cape, taking to the skies, unfold in a dream-like sequence that calls to mind Terrence Malick's work in movies such as The Tree of Life and The Thin Red Line.

What the trailer does make clear is that Man of Steel will focus on the man behind the legend.

Man of Steel
is produced by The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan, who also had a hand in writing the screenplay.

The film is set for release in 3D in the US on 14 June 2013 and in South Africa on 28 June.
