Los Angeles - Chloe Grace Moretz "begged" to audition for The Equalizer.
The 17-year-old actress - who stars alongside Denzel Washington in the action thriller film - has revealed the part she landed was originally written for a 24-year-old.
Speaking on Good Morning America, she said: "I kind of begged to audition for it and I met with Antoine [Fuqua; the director] and we had a great meeting.
"And then I auditioned with Denzel and it went really well. It worked right."
The Kick Ass star - who plays a Russian prostitute in the film - admitted she struggled to learn the language required by the part.
She explained: "I kind of had a cheat sheet on my phone all the time - I had it written down in phonetics.
"It's a hard language to learn because it's so different to English."
Meanwhile, Chloe - who has starred in numerous box office hits - has revealed that she has had to fight for every role she gets because of her age and gender.
She explained: "I'm still fighting hard for every role I get. I'm still fighting the boundary of how old or young I can be, or how they want me to be something I'm not.
"You are always having this struggle, especially as a female actor against the higher powers trying to keep you in a spot which makes them feel comfortable. That's a major thing I'm battling right now."
