Chris Pine to star in The Finest Hours

Los Angeles - Chris Pine is in talks to star in The Finest Hours.

The 33-year-old actor is in negotiations to take on the leading role in Disney's Coast Guard drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Craig Gillespie is believed to be directing the film, which tells the true story of how a Nor'easter storm hit the New England coast in 1952, and two oil tankers were caught up in the middle.

The ships split in half, throwing its crew into the dangerous seas, and it was up to the efforts of the coast guard to attempt to rescue the innocent victims.

Robert Schwentke was initially on board to helm, but the script took a little long than expected and he left the project last year when he was offered the chance to direct Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent.

Meanwhile, Jim Whitaker will produce the project from an adapted script penned by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, which was taken from the non-fiction book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias.

Pine has just finished Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and would be able to fit in The Finest Hours before starting the next Star Trek film.
