Clout of Chinese film awards to grow, says Ang Lee

Taipei - Ang Lee says the clout of the Chinese language equivalent of the Academy Awards will grow as the market for Chinese films increases.

The Academy Award-winning Taiwanese director met journalists on Tuesday before next week's Golden Horse Awards. The event showcases films from Taiwan, mainland China, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Lee will be one of the Golden Horse jurors, selecting winners in 22 categories, from Best Feature Film to Best Action Choreography. The awards will be presented 23 November.

Asked about Hollywood's relative indifference to the Golden Horse event, Lee says that will change as the market for Chinese films grows.

He says that "it will have its ups and downs, but eventually it will get picked up".
