Colin Firth surprises at awards

Los Angeles - Colin Firth made a surprise appearance at the Jameson Empire Film Awards in London on Sunday.

The King's Speech actor - who won Best Actor at this year's Oscars as well as a host of other accolades including a Golden Globe and a BAFTA - arrived at the event in the British capital's Grosvenor House Hotel to present Gary Oldman with the Empire Icon prize.

As well as giving out the award he also picked up his own, winning the Jameson Best Actor.

Kick-Ass won in two of the six categories it was nominated for; Chloe Moretz won Best Newcomer for her role of foul-mouthed superhero Hit Girl in the movie, while the project as a whole took the Best British Film award.

'One day'

Jane Goldman, who wrote the script for the first movie, revealed there were currently no official plans in motion for a sequel to the film starring Aaron Johnson as the titular self-made hero, but hoped something would happen "one day".

She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "It is not in the works currently but who knows one day we would all love to.

"Everyone is just doing other stuff right now, but we all had an amazing experience doing it so that would be fun.

"The comic is wonderful but whether or not it would diverge from that I don't know. No one has had a chance to sit down and really plan it properly but who knows? One day!"

Noomi Rapace won the Best Actress award for her role in thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, while Keira Knightley was awarded the Empire Hero accolade.
