Los Angeles – Flight of the Conchords star Bret McKenzie has joined the cast of the troubled and long-awaited film The Hobbit.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that McKenzie will be playing an elf in Peter Jackson's adaptation of JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit.
New Zealand-born McKenzie had previously appeared in two of the Lord of the Rings films as an unknown elf, who fans named Figwit. His three-second cameo in the first Lord of the Rings film, The Fellowship of the Ring, was followed by a one-line cameo in The Return of the King, the final film in the fantasy trilogy.
Variety reported on Tuesday that he will play an elf called Lindir, which means "song" in the Elvish dialect of Sindarin.
Other actors who will be reprising their Lord of the Rings roles in The Hobbit include Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood and Sir Ian McKellen.
