Johannesburg - Dis ek, Anna (It’s Me, Anna) had an excellent opening weekend at the box office, scoring the highest per print average of all the films released this weekend.
The film is currently positioned at number three on the local box office top 10 performing films.
The film was released on 39 prints and earned a gross box office of R773 160 with 15 592 attendances over three days (including previews).
“We are thrilled with the box office figures for opening weekend”, says Times Media Films GM, Driki van Zyl.
“The film performed exceptionally well, despite having to compete with the Rugby World Cup, and Currie Cup Final on Saturday, usually the strongest day for cinema attendances. Times Media Films is proud to be distributing this remarkable film and the strong showing at the box office this weekend is proof that audiences want to see quality and thought provoking films from local filmmakers”.
The film has been hailed by local critics and garnered 3 top awards (Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor) at the Silwerskermfees.
Dis ek, Anna is now headed to Europe for a series of screenings at international film festivals.
