Los Angeles - Donald Sutherland is the latest star to sign up to The Hunger Games.

The 75-year-old actor will play President Snow in the forthcoming adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novel series, alongside Jennifer Lawrence as lead character Katniss Everdeen.

The president is the autocratic ruler of Panem, the remains of a country in North America after an apocalyptic event, who sets up the titular games after a series of revolts against his rule.

Horrible Bosses

A huge cast is currently attached to the movie - which is currently shooting in North Carolina - including Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci and Lenny Kravitz.

The Gary Ross-directed epic concerns the tale of Katniss and her struggle in the games to stay alive, and is planned for release on March 23.

Golden Globe-winning actor Donald has a number of projects coming up in the near future, including a role in Horrible Bosses alongside Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman, and TV movie My Life As An Experiment.
