Los Angeles - James Cameron has urged Avatar fans not to "jump to conclusions" about the sequel.
The director is currently working on the sequel to the sci-fi movie set on a planet named Pandora invaded by humans looking for a natural resource, and while Sigourney Weaver - whose character died at the end of the first film - has previously said she would be returning to the follow-up, James has confirmed it may not be in the capacity most would expect.
Time travel
He said: "Well, I don't want to disabuse her of that fantasy. But have you ever heard of nonlinear storytelling? A lot happens on the planet before she shows up, and before Jake shows up to join her. She's there for 15 years ahead of time. I don't know, but I wouldn't jump to conclusions."
The Titanic filmmaker refused to give away any more information, claiming he already had.
He said during a Q&A: "I've already said way too much about Avatar 2 and 3 here and there, but people piece it together like those voice cameos and tell the whole story!
"When you have a science fiction series, a science fiction franchise, you're never dead, unless your DNA is expunged from the universe. And then there's always time travel!"
