Dumb and Dumber sequel in the works

Los Angeles – Jim Carrey could come on board for a follow-up to Dumb and Dumber, according to the film's director Bobby Farrelly.

The director - who produced the comedy telling the tale of intellectually challenged duo Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne in 1994 with his brother Peter Farrelly - says they are thinking of another plot because the film is so popular with young people.

He said: "The generation of kids sort of seen over and over and over is Dumb and Dumber. Kids will come up and be able to quote lines from that that I've long forgotten.

Dimwits

"So, we actually have ... That ball's in motion. We're starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing."

Bobby added that the sequel would be even better if the original stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels signed up.

He said: "Maybe if we got those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, that might be a worthwhile sequel."

"Basically, 20 years later in life and hopefully, I will be able to come up with something that's worthy of a sequel."

Worthwhile

However, Bobby refused to confirm that the sequel is certain, saying he would have to be absolutely sure it would be worthwhile before officially going ahead.

He told Movie Hole: "We don't want to get caught into that 'telling the same story twice', that routine and that's what a lot of sequels are. And so, we just haven't done it yet."

The Farrelly brothers - who also produced and directed There's Something About Mary and Me, Myself and Irene - have already expanded on the comedy movie previously, releasing prequel Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd in 2003, although it didn't star the film's original cast.
