Los Angeles - Dwayne Johnson is in talks to star in G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes.

The actor - who began his career as a professional wrestler known as The Rock - is in negotiations with Paramount to join the cast of the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, playing a character named Roadblock.

Falsely imprisoned

Channing Tatum is expected to reprise his role as lead soldier Duke in the film, which will be directed by Jon M Chu and is scheduled for a August 2012 release.

Earlier this year, Dwayne signed on to star in Snitch, playing a working class man who risks his entire life to save his falsely imprisoned son in the drama movie.

Justin Haythe has scripted the film, which will be directed by former stunt co-ordinator Ric Roman Waugh.

Dwayne has a number of big projects in the pipeline, including Journey 2: The Mysterious Island with Vanessa Hudgens and Kristin Davis and Arabian Nights, in which he will play Sinbad.
