Eric Bana to play Elvis Presley

Los Angeles - Eric Bana will play Elvis Presley in a new movie.

The Star Trek actor has signed up to star as the Blue Suede Shoes hitmaker in the indie film Elvis & Nixon, opposite Danny Huston as the former US president Richard Nixon in the feature directorial debut of The Princess Bride star Cary Elwes.

The movie is based on true events where Elvis travelled to Washington to meet the then president at the White House, following a six-page letter he wrote requesting a visit and suggesting he be made a 'Federal Agent-at-Large' in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

He also presented the president with a Colt 45 pistol and some family photographs.

Cary has written the script with Joey and Hanala Sagal while Eric will co-produce through his Pick Up Truck Pictures company.

It is unclear when shooting will begin although production is set to take place in Los Angeles, California and Shreveport, Louisiana.

Eric has recently completed work on drama Blackbird and will next be seen in diamond heist thriller Brilliant while Danny can next be seen in the Clash of the Titans sequel and Medallion with Nicolas Cage.
