Cape Town – Pre-production on the new James Bond film, with the working title James Bond 23, is already underway.
This follows months of delays after film company MGM was declared bankrupt.
Funds have since been acquired from other companies in order to keep the popular franchise going. British director Sam Mendes and producer Barbara Broccoli visited South Africa in April to scout locations for filming.
This will be the third time that British actor Daniel Craig will reprise the role of the famous MI6 agent and superspy since his debut in Casino Royal in 2006. Quantum of Solace followed in 2008.
The film will be the first action project for Mendes, who has directed dramas such as American Beauty and Revolutionary Road.
Neal Purvis and Robert Wade will write the screenplay together with Peter Morgan, scriptwriter of Frost/Nixon.
Bond girls
British actress Naomie Harris is rumoured to play the new bond girl.
Harris, who featured in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, has not signed any contracts, but has said that she would like to be in the film.
In an interview with Radio Times she noted that today’s Bond women are not mere sex objects anymore.
"The films reflect the times. Eva Green’s character [from Casino Royale] was intelligent, strong and modern."
Judi Dench has indicated that she would again play the role of M.
Spanish actor Javier Bardem has also been approached for a role.
The film is set for release in late 2012.
