Filmmakers seek actors for local movie

Mbombela - Aspiring actors have a week to prepare for auditions for a local movie that will be shot around Mpumalanga's capital city, Mbombela.

Film producer Vusi Magagula, 26, from Mganduzweni village outside White River, said auditions for the movie would be held on August 20 at the Nelspruit Community Forum.

"We are looking for interested actors and actresses between the ages of 20 and 60 years. This is going to be a very interesting movie written by a young woman from this province," said Magagula.

HIV/Aids

The movie, Ballet Lady, was written by Carol Mathebula from KaNyamazane outside Mbombela.

Mathebula said the movie is about Thuli, the daughter of a village chief, who is chased out of her community following the death of her parents from HIV/Aids related illnesses.

"Politicians conspire with some villagers to make everybody believe that she has Aids and that she is a curse to her community.

"She is forced to run away from the village and ends up on the streets as a victim of sexual abuse, but she dreams of succeeding and returning to her village as the rightful traditional leader," said Mathebula.

Magagula, who owns Media Casting Agency Blue Live, is the writer and producer of Missing Puzzle, a movie that was launched at the Casterbridge Cinema in White River in December.

Course in acting

He said the new film is being sponsored by local company Maphama Business Enterprise (MBE).

"We really thank MBE for providing all the shooting equipment including cameras, lights, microphones, and everything to make the project a success," said Magagula.

Cast co-ordinator Sindisiwe Mthembu, 30, from KaNyamazane, said successful actors and actresses would be taken for a short course in acting after the auditions.

“We also called upon some of our previous actors and other professionals to come and share their acting talents to groom the best actors for this film.

“Acting talent among our young people is fading and if we don't do something, we will have more youths involved in crime, drugs and prostitution,” Mthembu said.
