Los Angeles - The final Hunger Games film will be split into two movies.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay will feature two parts and will be released on 21 November 2014 and 20 November 2015 respectively.

It is not known who will be directing them following the developments confirming Francis Lawrence would be taking over on the second film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire from Gary Ross.

The last book in the trilogy by Suzanne Collins sees lead character Katniss - played by Jennifer Lawrence - leading a push against the government of the fictional country Panem.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is due to be released in 22 November 2013.

The first instalment of the film made $678.2m worldwide.

Philip Seymour Hoffman recently signed up to the second movie to play Plutarch Heavensbee, the leader of an underground rebellion of District 13.

Jennifer will be returning to play Katniss, while Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will also reprise the roles of Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne respectively.
