Skyfall

Cape Town - The first teaser trailer for the 23rd James Bond movie Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig in his third outing as the deadly British spy, has been released, premiering at the Cannes Film Festival.

The mysterious and atmospheric 84-second clip shows Bond undergoing a psych evaluation by playing a word association game while M (played by Judi Dench) and new character Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) observe.

Bond easily associates the words "country" with England, "murder" with employment and – cheekily – "agent" with provocateur. But it is the word "Skyfall" that puts the fear into Bond's ice-blue eyes.

Javier Bardem

The trailer gives teasing glimpses of new Bond girls Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe, Bond on the run on the streets of London, falling into the ocean and hints at a secret M is keeping from her most volatile agent as she looks over a row of coffins draped in the Union Jack.

The silhouette of the movie's villain Silva, played by Javier Bardem, can also been seen towards the end of the clip.

Sony Pictures have also released an official synopsis for Skyfall: "Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."

Skyfall is directed by Oscar-winner Sam Mendes and also stars Albert Finney, Helen McCrory, and Ben Whishaw who takes over the role of gadget master Q.

Skyfall is set for release in the US on 9 November and in South Africa on 30 November.
