Cape Town - The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man is here, officially this time. A low-quality bootleg was leaked onto the internet earlier this week before being swiftly removed by Sony Pictures.
The Amazing Spider-Man sees British actor Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, Boy A) take up the role of Peter Parker from Tobey Maguire and is a reboot of the franchise. In the trailer we see Peter separated from his parents as a young boy and is taken in by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben (played by Sally Field and Martin Sheen) who would eventually raise the future superhero.
Garfield and Emma Stone (as love interest Gwen Stacy) make eyes at each other in a sleek laboratory before the pivotal moment comes. Those rumours that the stars are also a couple off-screen will certainly gain even more momentum now. Gwen Stacy previously made an appearance in Spider-Man 3 and was played by Bryce Dallas Howard.
It's clear from the trailer that this new Spider-Man is a much darker affair, both visually and thematically. Screenwriter Steve Kloves has said that the new version takes the character back to his comic book roots and depict Peter Parker and his alter ego as a more natural and "real" character.
The Amazing Spider-Man is set for release in July 2012.
