Los Angeles – Rapper Andre 3000, aka Andre Benjamin, plays music legend Jimi Hendrix in the latest biopic Jimi: All is By My Side.
It centres around a year in Jimi’s life where he played as a backup guitarist in New York’s Cheetah Club to making his mark in the London music scene to his Monetery Pop triumph and his relationship with Linda Keith.
The film doesn’t feature any of Jimi’s original music though, as according to his sister Janie Hendricks no film currently has permission to use his music.
The film also stars Imogen Poots, Hayley Atwell, Burn Gorman and Ruth Negga.
Written and directed by John Ridley, the film has received positive criticism when it premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.
