Los Angeles - Paramount has greenlit G.I. Joe 3.
The movie studio has ordered a follow-up to the action blockbuster starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Adrianne Palicki following the global success of G.I. Joe: Retaliation upon its release last week, according to Variety.
The second movie in the franchise topped the US box office over the weekend taking in $41.2m, and it also earned a worldwide total of $132m in just five days.

The action flick's release was delayed by a year in order to convert the movie to 3D, and it's rumoured that producers wanted to film more scenes with Channing Tatum - who briefly reprised his role as Captain Duke Hauser from 2009's G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - following his success in movies such as 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike.
Predecessor G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra was critically panned and failed to meet box office expectations, resulting in Paramount partially rebooting the franchise for the sequel.
Director Jon M Chu recently revealed he would love to film a third movie and would "take it to the next level".
He told BANG Showbiz: "You know, it would be an honour [to do it], if fans went out to see it [this time]. And man I'd love to [make another one]. We have a lot of foundation with the characters here, so it would be really fun to take to the next level."
