George Lucas, new wife welcome baby

Los Angeles - George Lucas and Mellody Hobson have welcomed their first child together.

The couple, who tied the knot in June after seven years together, have confirmed their daughter, Everest Hobson Lucas, was born via a gestational surrogate on Friday.

The tot is the first biological child for both the Star Wars director and Mellody, 44, who serves as president of Ariel Investments and chairperson of DreamWorks Animation, according to the Huffington Post.

The 69-year-old filmmaker also has three older children, Amanda, 32, whom he adopted with his ex-wife Marcia Lou Griffin, as well as Katie, 25, and Jett, 20, whom he adopted alone after his divorce from Marcia in 1983.

Married less than two months

George and Mellody were married less than two months ago on June 22 at his Skywalker Ranch, in Marin County, California.

The ceremony was officiated by their good friend and journalist Bill Moyers, and director Steven Spielberg toasted the groom at their lavish reception.

The star-studded event also included guests such as fellow movie director Ron Howard and A-list actor Samuel L Jackson.

After the wedding Samuel tweeted: "Let's give a Galactic shout out to Master George Lucas & his bride Melody on this their wedding day!! Congrats!!!!!! (sic)"

Ron Howard also took to social media to congratulate the newlyweds.

He tweeted: "George Lucas Melody Hobson wedding was joy to behold Bill Moyers service was beautiful, nothing short of profound. Congrats Mr & Mrs Lucas. (sic)"
