Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel wanted for video game movie

Los Angeles - Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel are being eyed to star in Kane & Lynch.

The actors are wanted to play the lead roles in a new video game adaptation, which would reunite Butler with his Law Abiding Citizen director F Gary Gray.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Butler is circling the role of Kane, while an offer has been made to Diesel for the role of Lynch.

The movie is based on a video game which follows Kane (Butler), a death row inmate who breaks out of prison, along with schizophrenic killer Lynch (Diesel), in the hunt to find a stolen fortune. The pair travel across Los Angeles, Japan and Cuba to find the loot, with Lynch acting as the team's watchdog in order to protect his wife and daughter.

In development since 2007

The big screen adaptation, to be produced by Nu Image and Millennium Films, has been in the works since 2007 when Lionsgate was behind the project and had eyed Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx for the lead roles.

The script comes from Skip Woods and Kyle Ward.

Butler is currently filming fantasy movie Gods of Egypt and has just signed up for a sequel to his hit film, Olympus Has Fallen, which will be titled London Has Fallen.

Diesel will next be seen in the seventh Fast & Furious film and in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, both of which are due for release next year.
