Harry Potter makes movie history

London - The last movie in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, has become the top seller of the franchise by quickly reaching the $1bn mark.

According to a press release, the latest Potter film is only the ninth movie in motion picture history to achieve this.

This announcement was made by Warner Bros, distributor of the film, on Monday. This achievement makes Deathly Hollows: Part 2 the most successful movie in Warner Bros history.

This is also the fastest any film has earned so much money.

2D and 3D

When the record was set on Sunday, only 17 days had passed since its release in North America and most other countries.

The conflict between boy wizard Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort concludes in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which was directed by David Yates.

In addition to Daniel Radcliffe in the title role, Rupert Grint plays Ron Weasley for the last time and Emma Watson plays Hermione Granger.

Other actors in the film include Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Tom Felton and Ralph Fiennes.

It is the first Harry Potter film to be released in both 3D and 2D.
