Helen Mirren wants to be an action star

London - Dame Helen Mirren wants to be a "full time action heroine".

The 66-year-old actress insists it is much easier to work on films like The Debt or Red than some of the period pieces she has done as they don't require much acting.

She said: "I'm dying to be a full-time action movie heroine because the great thing about action is that you don't have to act. All you have to do is go from A to B as proficiently as possible.

'Horribly fun'

"It's much harder to do a long speech from The Tempest than a bit of action.

"You might get a bit bruised and so forth, but taking a few painkillers sorts that out."

The actress also admitted she loved getting the chance to use firearms when she appeared in Red with Bruce Willis.

She added: "Using that gun was horribly fun. Us girls don't get to do that sort of thing too often but you suddenly get this dangerous and visceral pleasure that's rather disturbing."
