Henry 'honoured' to be British Superman

London - Henry Cavill is "honoured" to be the first British Superman.

The 30-year-old star takes on the iconic role in Man of Steel and has revealed his pride in donning the famous costume.

He told BANG Showbiz: "It's an honour to be the first of anything. It's just a great opportunity to be a wonderful role."

Speaking at the film's premiere on Wednesday at the Empire Cinema in London's Leicester Square, the actor dismissed the idea of a British invasion in superhero cinema despite the likes of Batman and Spider-Man recently being played by Christian Bale and Andrew Garfield respectively.

He added: "I don't think there's anything particular about the Brits necessarily. I think we just happen to fit into the director's vision."

'I know more stuff now'

Cavill missed out on the titular role for 2006 movie Superman Returns but he admitted the experience he has gained since has benefited him this time round.

He explained: "I feel like I've got a lot more experience now. It's been 10 years. As an actor and as a human being, I know more stuff now so I can tell the story better."

Joining him at the star-studded event were the likes of Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, director Zack Snyder, producer Christopher Nolan, writer David S Goyer and Amy Adams.

The actress - who plays love interest Lois Lane in the film - revealed her co-star made it "easy" to act like she was attracted to him.

She said: "Henry is really easy to 'pretend' you think is cute! He's a really nice guy on top of that.

"Just a real gentleman, and respectful, and humble. He's really lovely."
