Horror flick creeps out Katie Holmes

Los Angeles - Katie Holmes was so scared when she read the script for her new movie she had to be comforted by her daughter.

The 32-year-old actress was always terrified of horror movies when she was growing up and she admits when she looked at the story for Guillermo del Toro's new project Don't Be Afraid of the Dark she was so freaked out she had to get a cuddle from five-year-old Suri - her daughter with Tom Cruise.

She said: "I did! I was affected by them, and when I read this script, I was so terrified that I started hearing noises - and I kind of held my daughter closer and looked in the corners of her bedroom a couple of times. I really enjoyed being a part of this, because I really do think it takes the audience on that thrill ride."

Family atmosphere

Katie stars with 11-year-old Bailee Madison in the movie, and the Hollywood beauty insists there was a great family atmosphere on set, despite the dark demonic tone of the film.

She is quoted by website PopSugar as saying: "It was a pleasure working with Bailee and getting to know her mom Patti. They're so lovely, such a nice family. I think it's really fun to work on movies because everyone's families get to know each other. I know Guillermo's family, he knows my family, and we all stay in touch. We're all raising children in a very creative environment - it's great fun."
