Hugh Jackman: X-Men script is fantastic

Los Angeles - Hugh Jackman says X-Men: Days of Future Past is "fantastic".

The actor is set to reprise his role as Wolverine in the superhero adventure which will see original X-Men helmer Bryan Singer return to the director's chair, and has expressed his delight at reuniting with the filmmaker, as well as other returning X-Men stars for the film.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said of the film's script: "I've read it. It's really, really fantastic.

"I owe, in a way, everything to Bryan. The first film I did in America was X-Men. Wolverine is a character I've loved playing and I can't believe it's going to be my seventh time playing it. It just blows me away.

Time-travelling plot

"It not only feels like the right kind of project, it actually is so exciting that we'll all be back together again. I don't want to give away too much but I'm really excited not only to reunite with all those great actors but also to work with some of the other ones."

However, Jackman admits returning to the intense physical regime and diet for his role as the clawed superhero is daunting.

He added: "I must admit I was starting to see a life free of steamed chicken breasts. They told me the idea and, at the time, it was Matthew Vaughn [directing]. Instantly, I knew it was a winner. It just felt like everything was coming full circle. However, I must admit my stomach and my mind were like, 'Oh no.' "

The ambitious blockbuster - which centres on a time-travelling plot - will unite the stars of the original X-Men franchise, including Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen and Anna Paquin, with the stars of 2011 prequel X-Men First Class, which starred James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence.

Before next year's X-Men: Days of Future Past, Jackman's Wolverine will be seen in The Wolverine later this year.
