Italian court to auction more than 2 000 porn movies

Rome - An Italian court will auction a vast porn collection next week as part of efforts to compensate the victims of a large-scale fraud, several media reports said on Wednesday.

The Court Auction House of Treviso, in north-east Italy, set a starting price of 720 euros for a lot comprising 2 187 videos and DVDs, as well as erotic "accessories", that is due to go on sale on 24 September.

Il Fatto Quotidiano, one of the newspapers which publicised the auction, noted that, at a rate of one viewing per day, it would take almost six years to watch all of the material, which used to belong to local entrepreneur Luigi Compiano.

His assets were confiscated last year, following the discovery that 40 million euros ($52m) were missing from the vaults administered by his North East Service, a well-known armoured transport firm.

Through auctions, authorities are trying to recover at least some of the money Compiano is accused of having stolen. Other items, including hundreds of model cars, electric trains are also being sold next week, while other assets were auctioned earlier this year.

By raiding company accounts, Compiano was said to have amassed a treasure trove featuring an amazing collection of around 400 cars, 70 boats, 160 motorbikes, 60 racing bicycles, as well as pieces of sporting memorabilia.

The rarest vehicles - such as four Jaguar E-types and a 1938 Alfa Romeo 6C - still have to go under the hammer, and could be sold for at least 15m euros, local media reported.
