Cape Town – Renegade MI6 agent James Bond appears to have met his match in the latest trailer for Skyfall, the 23rd movie featuring the British spy and the third starring Daniel Craig in the role.
Following on the 84-second teaser which premiered at the Cannes film festival earlier this year, the full-length trailer features new scenes of Bond being shot while on a mission, and his death being faked by MI6.
M, played by Judi Dench, recalls her most volatile agent when a hard drive containing the identities of every agent embedded in terrorist organisations is released on Youtube and a number of British agents are killed in a London explosion.
A much more personal threat emerges as M is targeted by Silva, a white-haired villain, played by Javier Bardem, with ties to both M and the agency.
Sony Pictures' official synopsis for Skyfall reads: "Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."
The trailer also reintroduces MI6 tech wizard Q, now played by Ben Whishaw, who develops more impressive new toys for 007.
Skyfall is directed by Oscar-winner Sam Mendes and also stars new Bond girls Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe, Albert Finney and Ralph Fiennes.
Skyfall is set for release in the US on 9 November and in South Africa on 30 November.
