Javier Bardem excited to play Bond villain

Los Angeles - Javier Bardem is ecstatic to play the next Bond villain.

Oscar-nominated actor Javier - who has been rumoured to be taking part in the movie, thought to be called Skyfall, for some time - will fulfil his lifelong dream playing the next bond villain in the 23rd instalment of the British spy franchise.

The 42 year-old star told US news show Nightline: "I'm a huge fan of the James Bond saga. When I was little, I went watching Mr Connery doing James Bond with my father. I saw all of them, so to play that is going to be fun. Who in the world would think I'd be in one of those movies?"

It will be the first villainous role for Javier since the hugely successful No Country For Old Men in 2007 and he admits that he is drawn to the darker roles and finds them strangely alluring.

He said: "Evil can be very seductive. Maybe I will go home saying, 'I have the world in my hands"

Tight-lipped

Despite his excitement, the Spanish actor is staying tight-lipped over the details of his character but admits he would not be doing the film if he was not intrigued by the direction Sam Mendes will be taking it.

He said: "They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details.

"They're changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic. I'd be playing Bond's nemesis, yes, but it's not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It's very intriguing."

Daniel Craig will be returning as the leading man in the film.
