Jeff Bridges disses his own movie

Los Angeles - Jeff Bridges admits he was underwhelmed with R.I.P.D.

The summer blockbuster, which starred the 63-year-old actor and Ryan Reynolds as an afterlife police team, flopped at the box office earlier this year, grossing just $33m in the US despite its $130m budget.

He told the new issue of US GQ magazine: "I remember what we were doing ... I thought, 'This could be fun to see.' And when I saw it, I was a little underwhelmed. For my mind, the studio made some, uh, choices that I wouldn't have made.

"I remember when someone pitched me the project, I couldn't quite grasp what they were talking about."

R.I.P.D. is based on a comic book of the same name and the title stands for the Rest in Peace Department, a ghoulish police force who are tasked with patrolling Earth for spirits who haven't crossed over to the other side.

Bridges added that he kept an eye on the film's box office success, or lack thereof, with a keen interest.

He said: "It's kind of fun when the movie's coming out. It's like having a horse in the race ... And they're lining up, and they're off! And you're rooting for your horse. And in this case, the jockey fell off the horse and you came in last."
