Jock is top dog at SA box office

Cape Town - Jock of the Bushveld, South Africa's first 3D animated film, opened in cinemas this weekend and was catapulted to the No 1 spot at the box office.

The movie, directed by Duncan MacNeillie, grossed in excess of R2.4m at the local box office, according to Ster Kinekor.

Jock outperformed a wealth of international movies opening this past weekend including Super 8 and Larry Crowne and also beat blockbuster hits such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - which has already grossed over $1bn worldwide - and Pixar's Cars 2 in their second and third week respectively.

Jock of the Bushveld features the voice talents of Bryan Adams, Helen Hunt, Donald Sutherland, Ted Danson and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.

The filmmakers have not disclosed how much the movie cost to make, but have said that it cost roughly 10% of a typical animated film production.
