The Lone Ranger

Cape Town - Walt Disney Pictures have released the first trailer for The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp as Native American warrior Tonto and Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger.

Behind the highly anticipated action-adventure are producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, who also brought the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to the big screen.

Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice. In the trailer, Tonto tells John: "There comes a time when good men must wear a mask".

Humorous friction

Set against the taking wild American West and the advent of the railway system - bringing commerce and, in turn, power and corruption to the West.

According to Disney, the movie offers "a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption".

The Lone Ranger also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter and is set for release in the US on 3 July 2013, and in South Africa on 12 July.
