Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen are teaming up for a new Christmas movie

Los Angeles - Joseph Gordon-Levitt and his 50/50 co-star Seth Rogen are teaming up for a Christmas comedy.

Director Jonathan Levine, who worked on their last movie, will also join the pair once again and Sony has confirmed filming for the untitled project is set to start this summer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will tell the story of three childhood friends who reunite in New York for their annual tradition of going out on Christmas Eve.

Gordon-Levitt and Rogen will play two of the friends, while the third lead role is yet to be cast. Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane - whose company Good Universe produced and co-financed 50/50 - will also work on the film and Point Grey Pictures are on board to produce.

Gordon-Levitt played a 27-year-old cancer victim in 50/50, which was inspired by a true story and co-starred Rogen, who played his best friend in the movie. It also featured actresses Anna Kendrick and Anjelica Huston.

The film was nominated for a Best Picture at the Golden Globes and was also a success at the Box Office in 2011, earning $39.2m against an $8m budget.

The new Christmas movie, which has been written by Levine, sparked interest from several studios, including Sony, Universal and Paramount, before Sony emerged as the winner on Monday.
