Kristen Stewart struggled with role

The 20-year-old actress plays a young dancer named Mallory who becomes caught up in the drama of a couple facing marriage difficulties, and she found the character difficult as she has no similar experience to base her performance on.

She said: "It was an incredibly impactful experience. But at the same time, it's not like I was incredibly altered by the end of it.

"It's hard to relate to this story, because I couldn't have had a more different upbringing. I can't relate to the kind of loss and weird incomplete feeling or whatever."

Despite the controversial nature of the movie, Kristen believes the film is enjoyable for those fans of hers who only know her for Bella in the Twilight vampire movies, and can help them learn the importance of self respect.

She told MTV.com: "One thing that is generally relatable and I found is perfect for young girls who areTwilight fans, actually – is the whole idea that, unless you respect and like yourself, nobody else is going to. It's always been really easy for me to do that."

Welcome to the Rileys, which also stars James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo, goes on limited release in the US in November.
