Kristen Stewart wanted for Snow White

Los Angeles - Kristen Stewart is the favourite to play the title role in Snow White and the Huntsman.

The Twilight Saga actress has topped the list of young actresses being considered by Universal for the role of Snow White in the movie which tells the story of a huntsman who teaches Snow White how to fight her evil stepmother after he defies her orders to kill the young girl in the woods.

A number of high profile actors have been linked to the role of the huntsman - including Tom Hardy and Johnny Depp - but Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen is currently the favourite to land the part.

It was previously reported that Charlize Theron is being lined up to play the part of evil queen Ravenna.

Evan Daugherty has written the screenplay to be directed by Rupert Sanders.

Kristen and Viggo will appear together in the upcoming adaptation of On the Road this year.

Kristen is currently filming Breaking Dawn the final part of the Twilight Saga while Viggo will play Sigmund Freud in A Dangerous Method, with A History of Violence director David Cronenberg.

Snow White and the Huntsman is expected to be released on December 21 2012.
