Kristen Wiig turns down Bridesmaids 2

Los Angeles - Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig has revealed she turned down a major offer to star in a sequel to the hit film.

The comedienne - who wrote the script for the hit 2011 comedy and co-starred alongside Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph - insists that even even though being in Bridesmaids 2 would be incredibly lucrative, money is not her goal in life.

She told Harper's Bazaar magazine: "It wasn't a hard decision. We knew during the first one, this was it.

"We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that's not my goal in my creative life."

Bridesmaids grossed $288m at the box office in 2011 and made stars of Wiig and co-star McCarthy, who has previously expressed her interest in a sequel.

Wiig also confessed that she still feels weird playing romantic leads on the big screen because of her background playing wacky characters on TV sketch show Saturday Night Live.

She said: "When people first started recognising me, they always gave me a second look because they didn't really know what I looked like.

"For a long time it was my job to be an unattractive older woman or a creepy-looking child."
