Los Angeles – Writer Jason Hall will be developing a movie about the life of Grigori Rasputin with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead, reports RTÉ.
The pitch has reportedly been acquired by Warner Bros and will potentially be directed by Steven Spielberg.
Rasputin was a faith healer and mystic that gained a reputation when he helped to heal the son of the Russian imperial family, the Romanovs. He became their trusted supervisor and gained much political influence but this also attracted many enemies who believed he had too much power. Rasputin became legend after supposedly surviving poisoning, being shot, beaten and finally drowned in the Neva River.
DiCaprio will be taking a long break from acting after having worked on three films consecutively and according to Huffington Post the Rasputin movie will wait for his return before the start with production.
