Luke Evans lands The Crow lead

Los Angeles - Luke Evans has landed the lead role in The Crow.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey actor is set to star in F. Javier Gutierrez's Relativity Media remake of the original 1994 Alex Proyas-directed thriller film, Deadline reports.

Evans was reportedly the original choice for the hotly anticipated role but was initially too busy filming Peter Jackson's fantasy film as well as Dracula Year Zero, in which he was also cast as the lead.

Production delayed

True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard and Thor star Tom Hiddleston were then both considered for the part, but it is thought production has now been pushed back in order to secure Evans after he finishes promoting Fast & The Furious 6.

The Welsh actor will follow in the footsteps of Brandon Lee in playing Eric Draven, a man brutally murdered who comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée's murder.

Lee - whose father was the notorious martial arts star Bruce Lee - tragically passed away aged 28 on the set of the film after an accidental fatal shooting.

Evans can next be seen as Owen Shaw in Fast & The Furious 6 and will reprise his role as Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
