Madonna's royal movie finds a buyer

Los Angeles - Madonna's new movie W.E. has been acquired by The Weinstein Company.

The 52-year-old pop star admits she is "looking forward" to working with the studio on the film - which spans six decades and juxtaposes a modern-day love story alongside the real-life tale of Britain's King Edward VIII and his relationship with American divorcee Wallis Simpson - and it will be released this year.

She said: "W.E. is about the nature of true love, and the sacrifices and compromises that are often made.

"I've wanted to tell this story for a very long time, and bringing it to life has been a great adventure for me. I'm looking forward to working with Harvey and The Weinstein Company on this film."

'Impressive'

President of Production at the company Donna Gigliotti reveals some of the advanced footage she has seen of the movie - which stars Oscar Isaac, Laurence Fox and Abbie Cornish - has been extraordinary.

She said: "The advance footage for W.E. was some of the most impressive I've ever seen. I can't wait for American audiences to have the opportunity to see this film."

Although planned for a 2011 release date, no exact timescale has been given for the movie, which is Madonna's first foray into feature directing.
