Los Angeles – After much anticipation and excitement Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom only managed to secure one Oscar nomination.
The film, based on the life of former South African president Nelson Mandela, received a nomination for best original song award for Ordinary Love, composed by Irish superband U2.
However the two main actors who were both nominated for Golden Globe awards this year failed to make the list of nominees.
Both Idris Elba and Naomi Harris were also snubbed at the Bafta’s this year.
Idris received global praise for his portrayal of the freedom fighter.
South Africa’s Oscar entry, Four Corners, also failed to get a nomination in the foreign language category.
